The Open Oceans Studio explores design-driven responses to the ecological degradation occurring beneath the sea’s surface. Addressing critical issues such as rising ocean temperatures, acidification, reef degradation, and sea level rise, the studio develops design approaches for both coastal and underwater marine communities. Integrating marine biology, oceanography, and underwater ethnography, the studio fosters a transdisciplinary, practice-based design research methodology that responds directly to the ecological crisis unfolding at sea.
